This dress reminds me of some of my favorite 'Virgins and Vamps' of the Silent Film era, like the stylish Marion Davies, Lillian Gish, Gloria Swanson, Jean Harlow, or Clara Bow. These were some of the definitive style icons of the 1920’s, known as much for their innovative fashion as their acting prowess. Much like these classic gamines, I’m also fond of ornate beading, statement jewelry, peacock feathers, and the occasional dose of haute couture. This sheer, sinuous gown evokes some of the epic period films that early 20th century moviegoers were so fond of. It was a fail-proof formula - windswept cliffs, exotic locales, Rudolph Valentino rushing to save a wide-eyed damsel in distress. Not all of early film’s heroines were demure and helpless, however. These were the Vamps - worldly, sultry, and seductive. This dress knows how to play both roles. An empire waist with a satiny pleated fabric belt ties around the back to give you a shapely figure, and delicate, Art Nouveau-inspired panel of beading in a peacock-feather palette adorns the shoulders and back. Wide fluttery sleeves give you freedom to move, and an opaque slip is stitched in to make sure everything stays appropriate for all audiences. Available in either a warm blush-tone or darkest noir, pair with simple flats and thin bangles to play the ingénue, or do it up with sexy pumps, patterned tights, and a handful of cocktail rings to transform into a screen siren! -Emily, Fashion Writer

This dress is beautiful! I have a build that is very hard to fit for dresses. I wear a size 10 pant, have a shorter torso (size M), and am approx. 5'8". This dress hits just above the knee and is incredibly comfortable. I was afraid that with the slip underneath and the beading at the neck that it would be slipping and sliding all over but this dress just rests perfectly on my shoulders and flows just right! It covers up my tummy while at the same time giving me a little vavavavoom up top. The beading also makes it so I don't have to wear jewelry if I don't want to. Thumbs way up on this one!!!

I do have to say that in person this dress looks and feels alot more expensive than $55. It is simply beautiful and fits like a dream on a larger girl (36-33-45) and the length is perfect on me (5'9''). The beading is so pretty and stands out with the color on the solid black of the dress. I personally prefer to tie the sash in back than in front, but it would still be cute the pictured way. I do have to say that the slip that's included is very shabbily made. It's very short and is almost too small on me, but I will just toss it out and wear my own black slip under it. Not a big enough complaint to knock off any stars. I can not wait to wear it to work. I really want this dress in light pink now, too.

Love love love this dress! I got for my birthday in December and it's been perfect for holiday gatherings - it garners lots of wow's. I was a little nervous as I'm a curvy lady and a pear-shaped size 14, but the L is supremely comfortable & flattering as can be. My only complaint is the rather insubstantial slip which seemed like an afterthought (and its boxiness does not take into account my size D's and my *not* insubstantial bum!). I'll probably replace it with something a little classier and lower-cut. Other than that, two enthusiastic thumbs up from this first-time buyer.
