The Ginger Dress
Ever since I was a small child, I've adored old, black and white, classic Hollywood films with big dance numbers - especially those starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Although Rogers was almost always billed below Astaire, she was just as important a presence and as talented an actor and dancer as he.The ten musicals that feature this famous screen team are often dismissed by critics as "diversion" films, as they were made during the Great Depression, when uplifting music and energetic dance numbers were emphasized over a strong, logical plot. This, I think, is precisely the reason I am drawn to them. No matter how down and out I feel, curling up in a blanket and watching one of these classics seldom fails to lighten my mood and make whatever I am worried about seem a little less dismal. I adore this darling dress, reminiscent of the dresses Rogers wore in films like Swing Time (1936) and Shall We Dance (1937), for similar reasons. Its swirly skirt and playful polka dots put a smile on my face and make me feel like bursting into dance swing music, while its lightly padded bust and elasticized straps will keep my silhouette neat. When I need to a miracle mood lift, I'll pair this frock with a black bolero, bright red lips, a vintage-inspired handbag, and pretty patent pumps, and dance my sorrows away! -Jennifer, Fashion Writer

This was one of the first dresses I purchased from Mod. At first, I was hesitant to spend $100+ on this dress but it was so cute and there was only 1 left in my size. I tried it on as soon as I received it in the mail and was so sad to find that it was too small on me. I'm 5'1" and 115lbs (it hit right below the knee). I usually fit a small in dresses but I couldn't zip this dress up. Sadly, I have to return it but from the 5 minutes I spent playing with this dress, I can tell it is well-made. The fabric is thicker than usual, which I love since the dress is white so it's not see-through. The design is so cute! I'm sure this dress find a great home though!
This dress is well made, nice fabric and very cute. There is some stretch in the fabric so it is very comfortable and will fit most very nicely. My first purchase from ModCloth and I was very impressed and already have placed another order.
I own a good number of Mod Cloth dresses, and the Ginger Dress tops them all! It's very retro, very flirty, and a lot of fun to wear. The skirt is full and would be great to dance in. As Emily said, the bustier top is really flattering, and the bodice of the dress is fitted--but not tight--exactly as it should be. I usually need to alter my dresses in some way, either by taking the waist in or letting out the hem a bit, but this one is pitch perfect. I am a Mod Cloth girl through and through, and the Ginger dress is easily one of the best.
