To my (happy) surprise, the shoes were an even darker black than those shown in the picture. The ruffles are actually understated JUST enough to where the shoes don't look ridiculous...quite the contrary they look FABULOUSLY chic. Takes a bit of practice walking in them, however, as the heel makes the shoe more steep than it originally seems! I'd also say they are a TINY bit loose (I ordered a size 8; depending on the brand I am either a 7 1/2 or an 8) but not an entire size off or anything. VERY happy with my unicorn princess shoes!!!!!
