I always take a medium. I repeat, I always take a medium. That said, a medium in this jacket is most definitely a small in reality. The jacket's a bit itchy, too, and the sleeves run short. Still, the front ruffles are adorable.
I fell in love with this jacket when I saw it, and so I measured a few of my jackets to be sure it would fit before ordering, I too usually take a medium, sometimes small. the Jacket fit, but not as well as I had hoped. The sleeves are super short, thank goodness I can sew and did my own adjustments by adding a knit cuff underneath. The Other concern I had was with the shoulders, mine are a bit broad and so the pleat in the back pulls a bit. I would recommend it for someone very petite only.
I ordered the small hoping it wouldn't be too tight and to my delight it fit perfectly! I am 34A and 27" waist. I love this jacket, the sleeves are not short on me, but the liner wants to peak out the bottom of the sleeves at times. It is rather scratchy/itchy so I only wear it with a collared shirt beneath. I have received many compliments on it and it is of good quality and weight. When I received it, it had a very strong mothball oder and it took a long time for it to die down. It still has a faint but managable oder even now, 4 or so months later and I tried a few tricks short of washing it, I really didn't want to ruin it. But over all a great stylish, unique little coat that you'll be glad you have!
