1943 New Year's Eve Coat
It was my grandmother's fabulous vintage party dresses - which my aunt is currently holding hostage - that ignited my love for retro style. On Christmas Eve of 2006, a DVD of reformatted 40's film footage found its way onto my family's TV. I got to witness my grandparents dance the night away on New Years Eve in 1943! At the end of their evening, just before my grandma left on the arm of my grandfather, she tossed on a fantastic fur collar coat. When I saw the beautiful, double-breasted, inky black beauty featured here, I recognized all the elegance of that gorgeous garment from the 40's. This opulent piece of outerwear is perfect for the modern glamour girl, featuring a faux fur, vegan-friendly collar, along with princess seaming to skim the figure and darling bows to adorn the front pockets. I can't wait to wear this on my next big night out over a dazzling dress, bright tights, and lace up booties. A pair of lacy gloves and a haute little hat will be the finishing touch. When I saw this coat on website, I loved it. I ordered my normal coat size, but it is really big on me, I feel like the coat is swallowing me. Unfortunately, I will be returning it. The coat itself is still beautiful. The material is nice and warm and the cut is great.
This is a pretty coat. Fits nice, my only complaint is the faux fur collar, it looks very very cheap. Not the faux fur I'm used to. I thought it made the jacket look cheap as well. I will probably end up buying a nicer faux fur scarf to go with it. Without the faux fur, the jacket has nice clean lines.
My coat just arrived in the mail today. I tried it on and immediately felt the childlike joy of dressing up. The satiny inner lining feels luxuriously comfortable, and the furry collar makes me feel like a golden-age Hollywood starlet. The coat's details are picture-perfect, from the button-adorned cuffs to the roomy bow-tie pockets. It's easy to remove the fur collar (it's attached to tiny buttons with elastic loops); and the coat still looks smart dressed down for everyday wear. The coat's sizes do run large; I measured one of my own coats and ordered accordingly, and I was pleased with the size I chose. The coat's cut is as figure-flattering as it looks in the pictures. I can't wait to wear it!
