I love these shorts, but they are HUGE. I got the size small. Too bad they don't have an xs size. Yes- obviously they're supposed to be baggy, but on my petite build it was like I was wearing a parachute that billowed in every direction. So I decided to shrink them by washing them in Hot water and then blasting them in the dryer since they're 100% cotton and I really liked them other than how huge they were. The care instructions don't recommend this, but I was willing to risk it because I loved them so much. They fit ALOT better now. Still baggy but they don't swallow me whole like they did before. there's alot of fabric so the taller you are they better they'll look.

Perfect for the slightly more fashion-forward stick-figure clown as she cartwheels her way towards autumn! Seriously, WHAT a disappointment. These pants were one of my favorite items on the ModCloth site, until I ordered them and tried them on myself. Supremely unflattering and just all wrong; in size M, they engulf even my 29"/41"/5'8" (hardly petite!) frame just as they did Laura's. Now, I'm totally into emphasizing my waist by wearing voluminous pants and skirts, but these pants managed to not even get THAT right. The main cause for the unflattering fit, as far as I could tell, is HOW they engulf my body; namely, the legs are far too tapered for the voluminous cut. They totally billow around the butt (including in front), but don't billow at all above the cuff. For a curvy girl like me, this makes my lower body look like (as J. Lo once said, of her bad-body image days) a pair of potatoes on toothpicks. Wearing clown pants. Great. I'm going to try Laura's shrinking trick on them, though that won't fix the second-most disappointing problem I found with the pants: even unbuttoned (unbuttoning them only widens them slightly), the cuffs ripped open up the seams when I put them on. Apparently my ~14" calves were just way too much for them (and I've NEVER had anything fit too small for my CALVES!); they won't even button right below my knee, which is the thinnest part above my ankle. And now that they're ripped, they won't stay up as the model demonstrates. They seriously should have been elasticized there. The ripping was symptomatic not only of the ridiculously over-tapered shape of the pants and the fact that they were obviously designed (as much of ModCloth's offerings are) for girls with model-like figures, but also of the flimsy material used in their construction. On the one hand, it is pretty and makes the pants great for hot summer weather (never mind the autumnal color palette); on the other hand, they feel cheap and, as I discovered, perform to match. It wasn't just the cuffs, either; I hadn't even worn the pants--only tried them on and immediately removed them before my self-esteem could sink any lower--before one of the buttons at the waist started coming unsewn. So disappointing. Here are the flat measurements that I took (again, of the size M): 17" waist, 15.5" rise, 22" hips, 6.5" cuffs (yep, there's your problem, right there), 21" inseam. Since they're ripped and losing a button, they're certainly not in the "unworn condition" required for returns. I guess after I shrink them down, I'll see if my not-so-va-va-voom sister will wear them. Wish me luck. If not, I could always quit college and join the circus.

Although these came promptly and in great condition, I was unbelievably disappointed to realize that they are a HUGE fitting item. I got the size S and they hit right at my ankles, not my knee. I really loved them as far as color/fabric just as much in person, but was definitely not willing to attempt an experimental shrink. If you can, try to buy these a size smaller than you would in person and you won't have to return them like me. =[
