Vintage Paris Couture
I'm not really sure where to begin talking about this book. Should I tell you about how diving into its pulchritudinous pages choked me with a suffocating nostalgia for the streets of Paris? Should I be less sappy and talk about how the bright, colorful imagery seems a portal with which a viewer can travel without leaving their seat? Should I tell you about how useful this book would have been during that year I spent in Paris, tiny book of street maps in hand, wandering among the fairytale buildings, hoping to stumble across some of the city's elusive thrift stores? Oh, I don't know! All I'm positive of is that leafing through this book whisked me away to that golden city. The pictures of Didier Ludot, located just paces from my host mother's home, brought me back to days I spent nose nearly to the glass, gawking over an untouchably gorgeous Maggy Rouff gown like a child at a candy store. The write-up of Free'P'Star made me smile with the memory of digging through the store's chock-full racks. The other sundry shops reviewed in the book made me wonder how on earth I managed to walk by them all considering my unending urban explorations. Since Paris is the only international flight direct from Pittsburgh, I might just have to jet out to the airport now, this book in hand, and go see these marvelous 'magasins' immediately! Oh, I wish. In any case, staring at this book's forest of pretty pictures and reading about the endless wonders Paris has in store (literally) will fly me away on the on the air currents of imagination, and fill my heart with reveries of that incomparably incredible city. -Hannah, Fashion Writer
