I love this set of cutlery. Possible because of my backstory. When I was a kid we always ate off of these army plates my Dad used when he was in the army; they were white, opaque pyrex with an army green ring around the rim. I to this day do not know how (or why for that matter) he managed to pilfer these dishes, but he did and they are the strongest suckers on the planet. My parents never had wedding china, you see, so we grew up with those army plates and other various mis-matched plates, bowls, forks, spoons, knives, tupperware, etc. that we managed to get ahold of or was given to us out of some sense of duty by people who were horrified with our mis-matchy Thanksgiving dinner spreads. I loved that about my parents, though; they were quirky, they had style, and they didn't care about matching anything. Maybe that's why I love this cutlery set; it speaks to that part of me that I think is ingrained because of my parents; life is short-- you gotta try a little of everything to discover what you love and how can you do that if you have all of the same thing??? : )

I absolutely love that you took the time to share this story with us, Ashley, as it really shows how much meaning a piece like this might hold for someone. I've read many reviews of clothes that have reminded people of what their grandmother wore, or what their mother wore, but this is definitely a unique story. Have you shown your dad this set? I bet it will bring back memories as well (unless you all still have those dishes...which it sounds like you might). Thanks so much for your lovely feedback. :)

This utensil set is adorable, but very cheaply made. I bought two sets, one for myself and another for a gift. I've already broken 3 knives because the handles just snap and break. I decided not to give the other as a gift because of the poor quality. :(
