Growing up, when it came to style, no one outdid my friend Susie. In elementary school, while I dabbled with gawky, outrageous patterns inspired by Claudia from the Babysitter's Club, Susie wore lively, coordinated jumpers. By high school, she'd honed her style to a point where all the girls envied her polished look. One summer, while on break from college, we met up for a night out. In the overbearing humidity, she looked completely, effortlessly comfortable and stylish in light wash jeans and a draped, plaid shirt. When I complimented her summery, strapless top, she said, "Thanks! It's actually a skirt." Of course, I thought. Finally, I'd figured out my style secret - just copy Susie! I found my own loose-fitting, plaid skirt, pulled it over my bust and styled it with a strategic knot at the waist. However, it didn't drape across my body quite right. Once again, I'd been foiled. Years later, I couldn't help but be reminded of my fashion faux pas of the past when this multi-plaid, strapless dress fell on my desk. With its pin-tucked, sweetheart bustline and cheerful plaid of sky blue, raspberry, cream, grass, and slate blue, this dress exceeds my, Susie, and any other fashionista's style standards. Finally, I will be able to repent for all those awkward outfits I assembled by donning this grown-up, sophisticated version of that makeshift, plaid shirt. Boasting a hidden back zipper, full lining, flared pleated skirt, empire waist, and light organza border that peeks out at the hem, I know that like my friendship with Susie, I'll be able to count on this dress through the good times and the bad. When I wear this dress, I'll have no choice but to 'keep smilin' and keep shinin'. That is, after all, what good style (and good friends) are for. -Sarah, Fashion Writer
