The dress is beautiful, and it looks very classy. There are only a couple of things I would adjust: the length and the way the dress lays over my lower back. I'm 5'7 with an athletic build, so a small fits well overall, but it's a bit too short for my taste. I'll have to wear tights with it whenever I wear it out. And the back side of the dress lays strangely; there's no intake for the waist area. Overall, though, I think it's great and I'm very happy with my purchase.

I purchased this dress for my Senior Exhibition opening, and it was perfect! The fit was fantastic, it arrived very promptly, and was very comfortable on top of all the other pluses. It was my first ModCloth purchase, and I can say with certainty, it won't be my last. I am 5'8 average build, and opted for the large. I was somewhat concerned as to the length, but it turned out to be just above the knee...aka IDEAL. Thank you ModCloth!

I cannot possibly convey how much I desperately, desperately wanted to love this dress. Indeed, I had been eying it for quite some time--watching it go in and out of stock, waiting for the time when I could have just a little bit of a splurge on myself... But alas, it was not to be. I will be returning this dress. I want to outline the issues very specifically so that people who do not have the same body/fit-preferences as I can still love the dress, and people who have a similar body type/fit-preference can avoid having to go through the return process. My body: 5'4", 118 lbs, 34B bra (32-33" bust), 26" waist, 35" hips. Not particularly skinny nor curvy--just slender-average-with some curves, and slightly on the athletic (runner) side. Many of the reviews on here already give explicit detail on the dress, so some of this may be reiteration. First off, the pros: --The houndstooth is a print, but it is a high-quality print (i.e. when you stretch the fabric, you don't get "space" or breaking on the color). --The print is SUPER cute. Seriously. --It has stretch. The size small wasn't super-small. --The arm holes and neck are very structured and cute. --From the waistband up, it's extremely flattering. --The length wasn't an issue for me--it actually hit a quite-flattering spot on the thigh. It's a bit short, but would look great with just tights (no modesty skinny jeans required). I could wear it to work. The cons: --Fabric had a weird weight to it. It wasn't "cheap" per se, but it posed some structure issues. (I.e. The side-tabs were curling up around the buttons and I hadn't even tried it on yet.) --The waistband itself made the dress look a little cheap. Both from the curling and the lack of fitted-ness. --Very unflattering from the waistband down. The waistband sits just below the bust. (Instead of on the waist, as other reviewers have mentioned.) This wouldn't be a problem if the dress didn't gather the fabric from the skirt at the center of the back and front. This gives a very billowy effect. When seated, the front puffed out like a baby-belly. When standing, both the front and back conspired to make me look quite thick. (If the fabric were drapey, this may not have been an issue.) Because the waistband is so high, one cannot remedy this by wearing an additional belt. It just looks silly. --The fitted-and-flattering top contrasting with the loose and ill-fitting bottom makes one look very oddly proportioned. --The size small actually seemed a little loose (and, as stated, while I'm not a larger gal by any stretch, I'm certainly not a twig). I love the look of the dress--in theory--so much that I debated keeping it despite the flaws. However, my husband pointed out, "If you don't love it, you'll try it on a million mornings and always pick something else that fits you better and you love more...and you'll end up never wearing it." Those spouses. Sometimes they get it just right.
