When this divinely romantic, pale peach gown arrived in our offices, all of us writers agreed that it was wonderfully reminiscent of the long, richly detailed prom gowns of the 70s. For me, it immediately brought to mind my favorite series of round-cornered, 3" by 5" photos depicting my then seventeen-year-old parents dressed up and ready for their senior prom. My fresh-faced father sports a wide tie, and his black curly hair extends several inches longer than it probably ought to. My mother wears the dress my grandmother sewed for her, a white eyelet gown with a tie front, epitomizing the prairie-inspired fabrics and elegant cuts of the era. They stand together outside my paternal grandparent's Pacific Northwest home, smiling with the wide eyes and dimpled cheeks of youth.
