River Rocks Dress

I personally did not find this dress to run large. I have a larger bust, and usually have to get size M in ModCloth dresses/tops. I got this in my usual size and it fits well. I'm petite and it hits right at the knee on me. There is plenty of room in the bust, but the armholes and waist fit fine. It does have a generous fit in the hips, os if you have a slim torso and wider hips you can probably size down with no problem. This dress is really pretty in person, and has a substantial, almost heavy feel to it. It's fully lined, and the lining is dark blue and made of a knit fabric. The dress itself is gauzy and floaty, but the color gives you options for three-season wear. The bow in the front is pretty, and doesn't call extra attention to a larger chest. I don't have a small waist, so this dress looks better belted on me. I tried it with an ivory belt and a black belt and both looked nice. I'm thinking about wearing it with a bright green cotton blazer when the weather cools off a bit. It's very versatile and I'm glad I bought it.

I look for dresses in longer lengths with good quality fabrics that are suitable to wear to the office and don't require special underwear. The River Rocks Dress meets almost all those criteria. The bodice is large on me. I had to wear a blue tank top under it so you couldn't see my bra at the arm holes. I don't want to exchange for a smaller size because I don't want it any shorter. Right now it falls above the knee when I stand and at mid-thigh when sitting, and I don't stand up or sit down too quickly or the back will fly up! Instead, I will take this dress to a tailor and have the bodice taken in so it isn't so baggy. I will also tack the bow to the front of the dress because it dangles off my chest in an awkward way that makes me look top-heavy. For winter I wear this with dark grey tights, black boots, and a blue cardigan. The pattern is more animal print than rocks in a river. The shape, color and overall look are great. My first time wearing it I got at least 6 different compliments from everyone from high school girls to women my mom's age. Other plusses: the material is heavier than it looks, it is fully lined, and it doesn't need to be ironed! I like it and think it's good quality for the price. This dress would look good on a woman with a defined waist, and would balance out someone who is small on top.

This dress is fabulous! I wore it to my graduation and it was so comfortable all day. I can throw a sweater on over it and wear it to work or put on cute heels and make it a date night dress. I love it!
