Ms. Drizzle Dress

I purchased this dress a couple of weeks ago, and I'm so glad I did! There's something really classic and prim about it, and I've since worn it to a Christmas violin gig (see photo), a birthday party, a sausage-making party that lasted all weekend (without going near the sausage, of course!), and a Japanese presentation. Anywhere I need confidence or a smart, put-together image, I pull out this dress and have yet to regret it. As one other reviewer said, it looks like something off the set of "Mad Men", which is awesome. I was around 137 when I ordered this in a medium, standing at 5'7". I am a flat-chested 34A with a smaller waist and slightly wider hips, and it was really flattering, cinching at the waist, and lying flatter in front. I think that the dress works best for boyish figures and pears for that reason, because there is so much incredible detail in the top portion that you seem perfectly balanced, while the skirt just skims over everything until just above your knees. There are a few things about this dress that aren't quite obvious when looking at the picture online. The quality, first off, is really good, MUCH better than I actually expected. The material is both lighter and softer than it appears. I had expected this to be a dress that I'd want to "brighten up" with jewelry and colored tights, but the dress is really quite detailed and elaborate on its own, PLENTY to carry itself. I've had really good luck wearing it with black tights and black heels.

I really wanted this dress to work, but it just... didn't. I suppose it was a combination of things: it didn't define my waist at all, the color completely washed me out, and the tiered bottom needed at least one more tier to keep it from looking awkward and frumpy. Also, the fabric itself has, what I thought were just plain circles, a textured pattern that my roommate described as "squid suckers." I love the Annabelle Lee dress from Modcloth, and I was hoping it would look similar, but it didn't.
