Flatlands Frock
I read Edwin Abbott's novella "Flatlands" under the impression that - because everyone told me so - it was a parable for Victorian society. "Yes," I thought as I was reading, "how cleverly Abbott uses his geometric characters to make pointed observations on his era's culture!" So my stance remained until today, because today - wait for it - today, I saw this cotton and silk dress, and I'm now convinced that "Flatlands" is actually a metaphor for this frock's role in the fashion world! It's obvious - with its asymmetrically buttoned collar, flatteringly shirred waist, and cutely side-tucked sleeves, this PepaLoves dress, like Abbott's 3-D sphere personage, is a prophet from a world more stylish than we could ever fathom! How can you deny that the "Flatlands"-evocative, lilac-, sunshine-, fern-, and sapphire-hued shapes printed upon this garment's white-dappled grey background aren't exclaiming surprise and delight upon discovering what other wonders are out there? Just look at their expressive cartoon faces as proof. You can disagree with this 'frock to "Flatlands"' comparison if you'd like, but admit it - this dress undoubtedly exists to open up our eyes to sartorial possibilities so pulchritudinous that we can't even imagine their existence! -Hannah, Fashion Writer
